Meet Marisa Mieczkowski, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and children's author. Marisa has spent her career working with individuals with disabilities, predominantly Autism Spectrum Disorder. A big part of her day to day is inspiring others to embrace the traits they have that are uniquely theirs and encouraging others to befriend people despite their differences. Her hope with writing books is to encourage others to celebrate their individuality and make a more inclusive world for all.

Book Info:

Odin’s first day of school doesn’t go quite as planned. He hoped to make friends with his whole class, but instead gets teased for his “happy hands”. Join him on his adventure of making friends and celebrating what makes him unique!

Author note:

Happy Hands is great book for little readers to understand that it's great to be different, but it's even better to have friends that are ALL different. Happy Hands teaches inclusion through showcasing behaviors typically observed with ASD children, and accepting them for those differences and befriending them for being exactly who you are. Happy Hands teaches the message that inclusion matters, and staying true to who you are is important for fostering authentic friendships.
